Bombay Brides

Christian weddings in India's biggest city

Header image

Hannah Lavanya, (the bride you see featured in the header icon) and Felix Chandran had a beautiful wedding in Chennai, celebrated according to the customs of the Christian Protestant faith prevalent in the Church of South India. The two of them are Tamilian in origin and are not really connected to Mumbai, but the instant I saw this image of Hannah, it struck me how perfect it was for this website.

This is how a lot of Christian brides in India look – a precious combination of tradition and modernity. Christianity may have arrived to our shores from the West, but today, as Indian brides we are embodiments of how the West can be adapted to the ways of the East, without losing on the core values of either culture.

This photograph of Hannah was clicked by Bhagirathy Samudram, a very intuitive and skilled photographer based in Chennai. She loves to travel all over India, photographing weddings and important occasions of a variety of communities. I highly recommend this cheerful photographer and encourage you to visit her Photography Page to view more of her work.
